5 Ways to Market for Free

Advertising is expensive and not always effective.  You have to constantly be on the look out for alternative ways to market your product or service.  Here are 5 proven ways to get the word out and drive traffic to your website.

1. Blog

There is no better way to drive traffic to your website than by regularly updating a blog for your business.  Search engines love the content, it establishes you as an expert in your field and you grow and learn as a result.  Remember, quality over quantity.

2. Social Media

Twitter, Facebook, Linkedin, you name the network, pick 2 or 3 and stick to those.  There are literally dozens of social networks available now.  Target just 2 or 3.  Post an update when you write a new blog with a link back to the blog article.  Listen to people talking within your industry and interact.  Remember, God gave you 2 ears to listen and 1 mouth to speak with.  Listen and interact 9 times for each time you post an update about your product or service.

3. Engage

Engaging is listening, finding a solution and responding.  On your social networks, it’s listening to issues people are having and replying with answers. It’s about making people’s lives easier.  It’s not worrying about getting paid for everything you do.  Engaging is also reading other people’s blogs.  Not just retweeting their link on Twitter but actually going to their website, reading the article and posting a comment.

4. Word of Mouth

Do you remember when Facebook took off like a wild fire?  It had nothing to do with advertising.  People starting talking and it went viral. Usually, you have to do a lot of work to get to that point.  You can start yourself by spreading the word about your product or service to all of your friends.  It will refine your sales pitch and it’s free!

5. Work For Free

I’m not talking about giving the store away.  Use your time and answer some questions on Twitter, add your expertise to comments on other people’s blogs, spread the word about someone else’s product, do something for someone and expect nothing in return.
