Michael Stelzner, the founder of Social Media Examiner, has written a new book called “Launch” which is about using what he terms as the “elevation principle” to propel your business or brand beyond the competition.
It is a quick easy read and has some excellent information for any business trying to leverage social media and a blog.
I’m going to highlight the 3 elements of his Elevation Principle.
1. Great Content
There are two types of content. Primary Fuel and Nuclear Fuel.
Primary Fuel includes:
- Comprehensive how-to articles
- Expert interviews
- Reviews of books, products and web sites
- Case studies
- News stories
- Contrarian stories
Nuclear Fuel includes:
- Reports based on surveys
- Top 10 contests
- White papers
- Micro Events
2. [Helping] Other People
The basic idea is to help others without expecting anything in return. Your “other” people include your base of people that read your blog, subscribe to your content, or are connected with you in social media. Stelzner also suggests contacting outside experts and super experts. For example, offer an interview to an author to promote their book.
3. No Obvious Marketing Messages - At First
If you’ve been reading my blog you should know by now that this is something I suggest all the time. The idea is to forget your sales pitch, help people instead. Promote your product or service only once for every 8 or 9 times you share something useful.
Concluding thoughts on “Launch”
This is a great book for a few reasons. First off, anyone can use the information for their specific business. You don’t have to do everything Michael suggests but if you do you will be guaranteed an increase in website traffic and growth. While there is no “secret” formula for success there are quite a few rules that will definitely increase your chances. That is what you will find in this book.
